The Multilingual resource bank allows teachers in The Gambia to share teaching resources (mostly written) in any of the languages spoken in their classroom. Its development was initiated by Ida L. B. Ceesay (literacy facilitator), Alhagie S. Cham (teacher), Naisatou Kontheh (teacher trainer), Bangally Sabally (teacher), and Abdoulie Salam Jallow (literacy facilitator) during the Multilingual teaching resources: primary schools in The Gambia project. This project led to the development of a Teacher training toolkit that introduces teachers to the basic principles of multilingual pedagogy and explores ways to develop resources embracing all the languages spoken by learners. This Multilingual resource bank could not exist without local language experts, particularly:
- The National Language Unit of the Curriculum Research Evaluation Development Directorate/CREDD supports and oversees the development of all resources
- Kitabu Jabang (Gambian language literacy trainer and facilitator) supported the five teachers who originally developed this toolkit when they developed their resources
- Ebrima Cham (Gambian Sign Language interpreter and Secretary General of the Association of Sign Language Interpreters The Gambia) and his colleagues contributed the GSL material
Resources can be downloaded and printed so you can use them with your class. You can access all resources by clicking/tapping the images or titles below.
